Cumin Pie Pastry

Cumin pie pastry can be made with cumin butter, which we made in our previous post. Alternatively, simply add cumin spice to the pastry dough. If you don’t use the butter you will simply need around 3 tbsp of cumin powder and add it before you add the liquid.

Another pie pastry you might like to try includes turmeric pie pastry which adds great health benefits to any bake!

The pastry can be used to make an array of delicious dishes! Here are one’s that we recommend:

  • Peach Tart – a soft and sweet tart which goes well with ice cream.
  • Cinnamon Pineapple Pie. This pie is extremely delectable! The cinnamon and nutmeg gives it such an awe-inspiring flavour!

Ingredients
  

  • 300 grams flour
  • pinch salt
  • 210 grams cumin butter
  • 20-100 ml ice water

Instructions
 

  • Add the flour and cubes of the butter to a mixing bowl then mix with the salt.
  • Once thoroughly mixed add the ice water slowly and keep mixing until it's at an optimal pie pastry state. Not dry and not wet.
  • Add to a board then roll out with flour above, under and on the rolling pin to the measurements of the pie dish you use.

Cumin Butter

Cumin butter is not only healthy but delicious as well! Both rich, earthy and warm- you can add this to almost any savoury dish! It’s also got a long array of health benefits which you can read up here. If you want to add more flavour and healthiness to the butter- you can make turmeric butter instead. If you want to save time on this- make sure to use an electric whisker as it is quite hard on your arms.

During the recipe, if your double cream gets stuck in the whisk. You can simply declog it by using a fork. Alternatively, you can add milk to separate the cream and give it some liquid. While making the butter you’ll find you’ve made some buttermilk which works well in any baked good.

Ingredients
  

  • 600 ml double cream
  • 2 tbsp cumin

Instructions
 

  • Add the double cream and cumin to the bowl.
  • Whisk the double cream until it's in a butter consistency.
  • If the butter is stuck in the whisk and not fully butter- add some milk to add some moisture to let it out of the whisk.
  • Strain and wrap!
